Features and Benefits
Model Design
We would like to take this opportunity to present
Flo-Tite’s high performance 3pc ball valves. Flo-Tite’s
unique design 3pc design valve is a full port design; rated
at 1500 WOG; size range ¼” thru 4 inch. The valve body can
only be assembled one way, which eliminates all the bolt,
nut and washer problems associated with other manufacturers
through bolt designs. This unique Flo-Tite design feature
will be of great importance where valves are installed in
difficult to reach locations or tight spaces such as on
board ships and many other similar complicated piping
systems. Over our last twenty years in this business, we
have witnessed hundreds of problems associated with the
older through body bolt designs. Problems associated with
the older designs included: misalignment of the center body
and end caps, causing the body seal to be damaged or
deformed which at times caused major leaks in the system.
Galling of stainless steel body bolts due to the poor
quality control, (which leads to customers cutting bolts off
the valve to repair or discard), over tightening of body
bolts resulting in extremely high valve operating torques
and at-times, rendering the valve inoperable. Our valve
center body is fastened to the end caps using eight cap
screws minimizing the potential of bolt shrinkage and
elongation due to thermal expansions and prevents loosening
of bolts due to excessive vibration. The Flo-Tite design
also insures the ease of foolproof reassembly every time!
Weld-In Place
Super-Tek’s high temperature seat capabilities allow weld
end ball valves to be welded to the piping system without
disassembly following special welding procedures. This
unique advantage results in ease of installation minimizing
potential installation errors and cost savings while
insuring full integrity of the factory assembled and tested
valve.
Valve Castings
All valve castings are investment cast; bodies are either
stainless steel type 316, CF8M with weld ends being 316L
CF3M or WCB A216 carbon steel with 316ss ball and stem, all
assembly hardware is 304ss including the valve handle.
Stainless valve castings are solution annealed/normalized
for the highest quality and added strength. All wetted flow
paths have a machined I.D. finish of 30 RA through 8RA, with
electro polish as an option.
I-SO-Mount
Flo-Tite's standard body casting has an integrally cast
actuator mounting pad, which complies with ISO5211 mounting.
This high-end design provides positive mounting that
eliminates unwanted actuator movement during high cycle or
modulating applications.
Secondary
Containment
The I-SO-Mounting pad also allows for the addition of a
Flo-Tite's media containment cap, a multi-purpose device
that can be used as a safety device in high temperatures,
emission control, and as a maintenance tool. The
I-SO-Mounting also allows for adapting to our cryogenic stem
extension.
Valve Stem
Assemblies
Flo-Tite’s Van-Guard stem sealing system, designed to
minimize fugitive emissions. Increases safety and provides
an immediate ball valve solution to the newer EPA
performance requirements, for valves to maintain a leak rate
of 500ppm or less.
Flo-Tite’s Van-Guard seal, provides a state of the art
stem sealing system incorporating a triple set of valve stem
seals. This unique system eliminates the possibility of
valve stem leaks in most all media applications.
Stage I – Front line
Stage I provides a front line defense against leakage.
The blow-out proof stem shoulder has a 45 degree bell shaped
slope. The bell shaped design offers increased sealing
surface, effectively blocking all leak paths during stem
rotation. The wedging action of this portion of the stem
design is far superior to the common flat stem shoulder
design found in most other valve designs.
Stage II –
Guide-seal
The O-ring originated early in many high cycle
applications. Its basic function reduces the potential of
machining imperfections and provides a low torque flexible
seal. This center guide also helps to maintain a perfect
stem alignment, by eliminating side loading stress, which
can cause stem leaks.
Stage III –
Live-Seal
Live-Seal is considered the intellectual component and
the workhorse of Flo-Tite’s Van-Guard Stem Sealing System.
Working in unison with stages I and II, stage III calls upon
the use of V-Ring packing sets which expands side ways as it
is compressed and energized blocking all air pockets. The
compression of low-friction TFM v-ring also eliminates stem
leakage by avoiding straight-line leakage paths. As an
added safety feature, all Hi-Tek stem assemblies are
provided standard with anti-static grounding devices.
Whether your service involves volatile organic compounds,
volatile hazardous chemicals, or air pollutants. Flo-Tite’s
ball valves are by design dependable, long lasting and fully
maintainable. Flo-Tite has various valve solutions and
designs that give end users the freedom of choice for the
toughest requirements imposed by the industry and by
international standards.
Product Material
Components Identification
In our two decades of ball valve experience we have had
many occasions where our clients had to have each valve
tagged to identify all valve soft parts. We have realized
the importance of this tagging and have decided to provide
spot weld metal name plates as a standard feature for our
multi-task valve series 200/300.
Flo-Tite’s marking system follows MSS SP-25-1998
guidelines. Our body castings are cast with the following
information.
Company Name:
Flo-Tite
ANSI pressure rating: 1500 WOG
Valve Model # : 200
Material: A216-WCB
Size: 2”
Casting heat numbers are stamped into all castings
allowing for full traceability.
Metal name plate (304SS) welded to body
Model #: 310SS
Trim codes: FFF

Valve users worldwide will be able to contact Flo-Tite
quickly in the unlikely event of a valve failure. These
valve markings ensure the client of ordering the correct
valve repair kits. Creating a user friendly, high
performing, safer product is our primary concern at
Flo-Tite, Inc.
Consult ball valve identification code guide for full
part numbers, tech bulletin page 188-07.
Valve Seats
Flo-Tite seat design ensures bi-directional, bubble-tight
sealing with low operating torques. All resilient seats
feature relief slots to relieve pressure past the upstream
seat and positive preloading to ensure low-pressure vacuum
sealing. Cavity filler can also be added that will allow
ball valve to be used in application where never before
possible.
Valve Ball
Valve balls are precision machined and mirror finished
for bubble-tight shut-off with low operating torque. As an
added safety feature, a hole in the stem slot of each ball
equalizes pressure between the body cavity and the line
media flow when the valve is in the open position.
Optional: A) Vented ball, positive release to upstream
side is assured in bypassing the upstream seat through a
drilled hole in the ball, unidirectional shut off only.
B) Open-port. C) Escaping ball
